Brubeck Brothers Quartet

8 p.m. Saturday, February 24. Sheldon Concert Hall (3648 Washington Boulevard).

In popularizing the use of odd meters in modern jazz, pianist Dave Brubeck enjoyed significant sales success while also stretching the musical limits of the genre. It's a formidable legacy, but Brubeck's musician sons have borne it with grace, acknowledging their father's contributions without being subsumed by them. Dan Brubeck, a drummer, and his brother Chris, an electric bassist and trombone player, both spent time early in their careers playing funk and fusion, and they now have their own band concentrating on acoustic jazz. The brothers' recent CD, Intuition, has been well received by both critics and radio stations, so expect to hear a generous selection of that material, as well as new versions of some old family favorites such as "Take Five" and "Blue Rondo à La Turk."
