Many films are being adapted for the stage as musicals, but Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands may seem to be the strangest choice for such a treatment. Then again, Burton's work exists in a parallel reality, as all musicals must, so it's really not that far of a stretch. Matthew Bourne's Edward Scissorhands follows the same plot as the film — boy is created by a mad-but-loving inventor, has only scissors for hands and enters suburbia as a lost boy in a man's body — but Bourne heightens the otherworldly nature of the tale by removing all of the dialogue and telling the story purely through dance. Dance St. Louis presents Edward Scissorhands Tuesday through Sunday (February 27 through March 11) at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.dancestlouis.org). Tickets are $20 to $60.
