The Charms / Gentleman Callers9 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. Off Broadway (3509 Lemp Avenue).By Christian SchaefferPublished on February 27, 2007 at 8:59pmThe members of the Charmsflirt, strut and, well, charm their way through songs of first dates and one-night stands by throwing a bit of Blondie-fied new-wave energy into the trusty garage-rock formula. Led by singer Ellie Vee and guitarist Joe Wizda, the Boston quintet has endured several lineup changes by relying on three simple truths: Power-pop and gritty rock go hand-in-hand, Farfisa organs always sound awesome, and blonde, breathy singers are hard to resist. It was even a no-brainer for E Street veteran and garage-rock svengali Little Steven to sign the Charms to his Wicked Cool Records, which released Strange Magic in February. Local garage-soul survivors the Gentleman Callers open the show.
