Cease to fret, my dears, if you missed the opening reception for Free Rein/Full Play: New Chicago Photography, the new exhibit at the Ellen Curlee Gallery. Like many works of modern art today, the photographs in this show pull the viewer in with their playfulness and vitality. But that is not to say that these photographers aren't serious. Quite the contrary: These artists seek to re-create depictions of life, and they do it with a zealous style. Adam Ekberg, Jenny Kendler, Mayumi Lake, Esteban Schimpf, Lilly McElroy, Lindsay Page, David A. Parker (his work is pictured) and Sabrina Raaf all are a part of the show, and you might already recognize their names (if not, you'll remember them after a look at the exhibit). The Ellen Curlee Gallery is located at 1308-A Washington Avenue (314-241-1299), and it's open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The show remains up through Saturday, March 31.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 16. Continues through March 31
