The March of March
St. Louisans know how to adapt to other cultures in the name of a party, whether they spout broken French phrases at Mardi Gras or chomp the wurst at Strassenfest. So it makes sense that everyone's a little Irish at the 2007 AT&T annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. The procession begins at noon at 18th and Market streets and moves east on Market Street to Broadway, marking the first time that the parade has marched from west to east. Leading the estimated 5,000 participants is honorary marshal Dan Buck, CEO of the St. Patrick Center, along with other folks, including a delegation from Galway, Ireland, one of St. Louis' sister cities. Floats, inflatables, marching bands, dance groups and plenty of kelly-green blarney follow close behind them. The post-parade revelry continues until 4 p.m. at the AT&T Irish Village at Kiener Plaza. (No word whether organizers plan to place an authentic thatched roof over the red metallic infrastructure at Kiener, located at Market and Seventh streets.)
