Straight to Video

To reminisce about the 1980s is to think about the rise of MTV, the promise of hoverboards and the deliciousness of Astronaut Ice Cream. While the ice cream may have lost its chic factor, and hoverboards don’t really exist (Back to the Future Part II, you lied!), the music video has grown far beyond its initial inception as a commercial for some dudes in fancy trousers and possibly fancier boots. The 21st century’s versions of videos give us art installations, guerilla film-blasting on the sides of public buildings and more, all shown on the interweb’s almighty YouTube. Bathe in the glow of the screen over drinks every Thursday night, as Miso on Meramec (16 North Meramec Avenue, Clayton; www.misolounge.com or 314-863-7888) is transformed into a decadent art party during MVT, or Music Video Thursdays. The weekly diversion, which screens mixed music videos both old and new, gets under way at 9 p.m., and there’s no cover. Hey, Buggles: It looks like video might be setting its sights on the DJ star, too.
