Let the battle for St. Louis supremacy begin:

It's the 2007 RFT Music Awards ballot.

With the 2007 RFT Music Awards showcase a mere two months away (save the date: June 3, from 2 p.m. onward in the Loop), it's time to unveil this year's nominees, which were compiled via a combination of my opinion and the thoughts of 70-plus musicians, venue employees and other music-scene denizens.

I don't know how you could leave The Upright Animals out of the best live act category. I've seen them play at Cicero's and Blue Hill and they can certainly rock. I was at a rare Mudhoney performance at Neumo's in Seattle about a month ago and realized I hadn't seen a band rip like that since watching the Animals in the Lou. Admittedly, The Animlas front man doesn't quite have the presence of Mark Arm, but that's like saying he doesn't quite have the presence of Robert Plant. The Upright Animals lead singer has a great and original style and the band's sound is totally unique. The Upright Animals is one of my favorite bands in your city and they deserve to be mentioned amongst the other nominees.
