Young Jeezy

7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 14. Scottrade Center (South 14th Street and Clark Avenue).

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the death of Notorious B.I.G. — and from the ashes of the coastal rap battles of the '90s, the South has risen as hip-hop's new hope. From Atlanta comes Young Jeezy, a former-coke-dealer-turned-rapper who relies on the devices of the gangsta rap that came before him to achieve stardom in today's street-cred-obsessed rap game. On "I Luv It," from 2006's The Inspiration, he raps in his famous raspy voice, "My P.O. telling me I need a 9 to 5/But I already got a job, and that's stayin' alive." It's all money, drugs and trouble with the law for Jeezy — but he'd tell you that's exactly why he is the street dream.
