That Linebacker Hits Like a Lady!

Football has never been Mr. Night’s sport of choice -- he’s a lifelong fan of Singlestick, just like Teddy Roosevelt, and he has the goose eggs to prove it. But tackle football played by women? Mr. Night is intrigued. Women are some of the toughest, most vicious people he’s ever encountered -- surely the St. Louis Slam play football with a joie de la violence that must be witnessed in person. The Slam, defending champions of the National Women’s Football Association’s South Central Division, kick off the 2007 season at 7 p.m. this evening at CBC High School (1850 De La Salle Drive, Town & Country; www.stlslam.com). First up are the Columbus Comets, playing in their inaugural season; hopefully, the Slam welcome them to the league with a resounding defeat. Tickets for the game are $5 to $10, and season tickets are $30 for adults. You may want that season pass so you don’t miss the May 12 game against the Cincinnati Sizzle, the team owned by Cincinnati Bengals legend Icky Woods. Commence practicing a sarcastic version of the Icky Shuffle now, so that you’re prepared when the time comes.
