Ms. Day fancies herself a bit of a storyteller. She’ll regale her friends for hours with tales of her journeys (to the supermarket) and adventures (at the clearance rack) -- poor friends! If they want to hear some great stories, they should look to the professionals participating in the 28th annual St. Louis Storytelling Festival, happening at locations all around town Wednesday through Saturday (May 2 through 5). On Thursday, May 3, the variety of programming is a story in and of itself: There’s the deaf storytelling program at 7 p.m. at the Greater St. Louis Association of the Deaf, Inc. (2190 Creve Coeur Mill Road, Maryland Heights), family storytelling at 7 p.m. at the Brentwood Community Center (2505 South Brentwood Boulevard) and “Later Tales: An Evening of Storytelling for Adults” also at 7 p.m. at five different locations, including the Soulard Coffee Garden Café (910 Geyer Avenue). Karen Young and Kathy Schottel are featured at the Coffee Garden, and you can catch Young again (plus several others, including Antonio Rocha and Kuniko Yamamoto, who is pictured) at the final event of the fest, the Saturday Night Storytelling Concert, at 7:30 p.m. at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road).
