The Duane Reed Gallery (7513 Forsyth Boulevard, Clayton) brings together two renowned artists, sculptor Michael Lucero and ceramicist Paul Dresang, for a sensational opening-night double-header Friday, May 18. Lucero works in clay with the kind of primal drive often associated with painting. His writhing totems (one of which is pictured) comment on societys rapidly changing environments by incorporating references to an eye-appealing hodgepodge of world cultures.
At the other end of the spectrum, Dresang presents a series of hyper-realistic depictions of handbags and cases. Rendered with astonishing attention to detail, the works might tempt observers to break the gallerys do-not-touch rule (dont do it!). Both shows run through Saturday, June 16, and the artists will be on hand from 5 to 8 p.m. at the opening-night reception. For more information call the gallery at 314-862-2333, and visit www.duanereedgallery.com to see a preview of both exhibits and a listing of gallery hours.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: May 18. Continues through June 16
