The Chicago trio Zelienople brings the patience of slowcore to the hazy, echo-laden world of shoegaze. The band's releases are often limited-run vinyl pressings and CD-Rs, which helps keep it from getting too tied down to one strand of experimental rock. Its latest EP, His/Hers, is built around delicately played acoustic guitar and an omnipresent, ambient hum that can mutate in mood from eerily calm to vaguely menacing. Opening the show will be the St. Louis trio Learn, Artist!, an instrumental act composed of Tony Renner (Ne Plus Ultra), Robin Allen (the Civil Tones) and Gina Brady-Allen. The band's twin guitars work well in tandem; one emits sheets of shimmery sound, while the other plucks its way through the landscape.
