Summer's here, and the time is right for sweet and cheerful indie-pop music. Enter the Besties, a Brooklyn-via-Florida band that's been playing the popfest circuit for the past couple of years to growing acclaim. Keyboardists/vocalists Kelly Waldrop and Marisa Bergquist have known each other since second grade, and it shows in their instinctive vocal harmonies and shared sense of humor. The Besties' first album, 2006's Singer, featured a batch of catchy tracks without real titles ("Prison Song," "Theme Song," etc.) and a nicely raw, unpretentious approach. On its latest seven-inch single, "Rod 'n Reel" b/w "Working Title," the band expands both its lineup and its sound. Currently on a two-month tour of America and Europe, the Besties make their St. Louis debut this Tuesday.
