Tennis Everyone

As the St. Louis Aces (314-647-2237 or www.stlouisaces.com) begin the season on Saturday, July 7, your curiosity is piqued about our city’s professional tennis team, but you’re a little nervous -- you’ve never watched tennis in person, so you don’t know what to expect. But you have been to a party, right? Then you’ll do just fine. During all of the Aces’ matches, the crowd is encouraged to cheer over the music in the stadium -- there’s no such thing as quiet observation at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park! Plus, each evening is turned into an event with special themes and activities. “A Toast to Tennis” welcomes fans to the first match with free Anheuser-Busch samples, opportunities to win prizes and adult carnival games to keep things interesting. And serious tennis lovers should note that this party vibe doesn’t mean the players aren’t any good: The Aces battle Jan Michael-Gambill and the Houston Wranglers on Saturday, July 7; Serena Williams comes to town on Monday, July 23; and the season ends with an appearance by Pete Sampras on Tuesday, July 24. To purchase tickets for these or any of the other matches ($15 to $175), call 314-534-1111 or visit www.metrotix.com. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the tennis gets going at 7:15 p.m.
Sat., July 7; Mon., July 9; Fri., July 13; Tue., July 17; Fri., July 20; Mon., July 23; Tue., July 24
