Whistler/Pete Yorn

6 p.m. Saturday, July 21. Budweiser Main Stage, on the Arch grounds, as part of Live on the Levee.

St. Louis music fans died a little death when much-loved Nadine hung it up for good after its 2003 record Strange Seasonsfailed to catch fire nationally. Hopes for a reunion were seemingly dashed when co-founder Steve Rauner moved to Portland, but he and singer Adam Reichmann have reunited under the banner of Whistler. Few details are available about the new group — this short set will contain new material, and the duo has plans to record a full-length sometime this year — but it's a safe bet that Whistler will remind listeners of what made Nadine so great: Rauner's always-inventive guitar tones and earthy, soulful keyboards provided the perfect canvas for Reichmann's yearning voice and stellar lyrics, which vacillated between soft introspection and detached bemusement. Whistler opens for Pete Yorn at Live on the Levee; die-hards will recall that Yorn's boutique label, Trampoline Records, released Strange Seasons.
