Gentlemen, Start Your Engines
If you’ve ever driven past Gateway International Raceway (700 Raceway Boulevard, Madison, Illinois; 866-357-7333 or www.gatewayraceway.com) and wondered, just for a second, what it’s like to haul-ass around the one-and-a-quarter-mile oval, you’ll have a chance to watch some regular folks who will find out this weekend when the Redline: Time Attack! series stops at the track. The event runs time-trial races in three classes, from super-exotic, modified sports cars down to straight-off-the-assembly-line street models. The rules are simple: The best lap time wins. The gates at the track open at 8 a.m. for spectators, and the action runs until late afternoon both days (Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29). The awards ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
