Who says nice guys finish last, even in today's rougher-then-ever urban music world? Philly singer Musiq Soulchild is something like the Theo Huxtable of R&B: a guy who politely chats up girls who plan to go to law school and make him a "Better Man." And you can still top the charts with those sentiments, especially when they're set to beguiling, Stevie Wonderesque grooves. Musiq — who plays Fair St. Louis with newcomer Chrisette Michele opening — did it just this year with his fourth solo album, Luvanmusiq, making the label trade that sent him to Atlantic and overrated rapper Fabolous to Def Jam look pretty one-sided — artistically, at least.
