There’s only one problem with the prix-fixe dining option: Not enough establishments offer fixed-price, coursed meals! Fortunately, Downtown Restaurant Week is a problem-solving type of event. See, from Monday through Saturday (August 13 through 18), 25 eateries downtown (thus the name) offer up a three-course menu for $25, plus tax and tip. You can make your reservation at any participating restaurant -- from the sophisticated, sporty Mike Shannon’s Steaks & Seafood to the just-plain-sophisticated An American Place, from the brand-new Simply Fondue to the St. Louis institution Charlie Gitto’s. For a listing of other Restaurant Week participants (including J. Buck's whose chef is pictured), menus and contact information, visit www.downtownrestaurantweek.net. And while you’re dining out, be sure to make a $5 “Extra Helping” donation to Operation Food Search, so that others can eat well, too.
