Postcard Dispatch

Receiving a postcard is such a nice surprise, especially in today’s world of text-messaging and emailing. The idea of someone sitting down -- during a vacation, no less -- and thinking about you, and thinking about writing to you, is sweet as can be. And for this reason, people hang on to postcards for years and years, treasuring that moment when they opened their mailboxes and found inside hand-written notes just for them. Heck, it’s even fun to check out postcards meant for other people, too! If you’re interested in beginning a vintage postcard collection or just want to pick up a few cards with especially funny messages or pretty pictures, drop by the St. Louis Gateway Postcard Club’s 32nd annual Postcard Show, happening at the Collinsville, Illinois, VFW Hall (1234 Vandalia Street). The twenty-five dealers’ one million cards will be set up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (August 31 and September 1), and admission to the show is free. For more information call 618-531-4189.
Fri., Aug. 31; Sat., Sept. 1
