From Mustard Seed, Growth

The Mustard Seed Theatre is a new company in town, and it starts its debut season with a staged reading of The As If Body Loop, Ken Weitzman’s modern comedy about Aaron and his unique family: his sister believes she’s been chosen by God to bear the pain of the world’s suffering, his brother’s a New Age disciple, and his mother lives in the attic. The scientific principle that provides the play’s title hypothesizes that someone who witnesses a traumatic incident is affected just as if the trauma had happened to him; questions of empathy and the connecting bonds of the human family are raised and perhaps answered during the course of the show. Fortunately, if you still have questions at the end of the night, there’s a post-show discussion. The As If Body Loop is read at 2 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday (September 9 and 10) at the Fontbonne University Theatre (6800 Wydown Boulevard; 314-719-8060 or www.mustardseedtheatre.com). Tickets are $10.
Sun., Sept. 9; Mon., Sept. 10
