Love Meno Tender

Author Joe Meno (pictured) is a hero to a certain stripe of literary punk rocker. Operating out of Chicago (where he teaches creative writing at Columbia College Chicago), Meno was a contributing editor at the now-defunct magazine Punk Planet and is the author of much-loved novels Hairstyles of the Damned and The Boy Detective Fails. His first novel, Tender As Hellfire, was released in 1999 and has recently been re-edited and re-released in paperback. It tells the tale of two brothers as they navigate a world of broken families, seedy trailer parks and the events that bind us to one another. Meno will read from Tender As Hellfire at 7 p.m. tonight at Subterranean Books (6275 Delmar Boulevard, University City) alongside Mickey Hess, author of the just-released tome Is Hip-Hop Dead?: The Past, Present and Future of America’s Most Wanted Music. Call the bookstore at 314-862-6100 or visit www.subbooks.com for more information.
