The Wildbirds

The Wildbirds: Nests comfortably on a bed of jangle-boogie.
The Wildbirds: Nests comfortably on a bed of jangle-boogie.

The Wildbirds' '70s-power-pop-pin-up looks (and songs which recall Nuggets deep cuts) make one suspect that the band's nervous moves are really just a decoy for lusty, lady-killer instincts. Or so the Wisconsin foursome wishes: Its 2007 debut, Golden Daze, is a dirty and hungry mating call that's probably too cynical to bag the birds and too sincere for anyone still horny for the next Strokes. "Everybody loves you but nobody cares," slur-sings songwriter Nicholas Stuart with more honesty than he intends. If most of the scenester nation has migrated on from the classic rock trash feast, the Wildbirds still takes its sustenance from juicy jangle, fat-back boogie and good, greasy hooks.
