The news is filled with stories of hero dogs -- canines that pull paralyzed people from mud pits, save entire families from burning homes and notify authorities of coal-mine cave-ins -- yet despite all of these great tales, odds are that your brave pooch is not a celebrity. Give your dog the opportunity to be the hero he or she has always aspired to be at Celebrate Spot, a dog-and-people walk that benefits the Siteman Cancer Center’s Young Women’s Breast Cancer Program. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the upper Muny parking lot in Forest Park, and participation costs $30 to $35. The walk commences at 9:30 a.m., and you and your four-legged buddy can choose either a 5K trek or a one-mile stroll. Prizes will be awarded to the biggest, smallest and best-dressed dogs, as well as the best dog-and-person look-alike team. To register in advance, visit www.celebrate-spot.org, and for more information call 314-747-7222.
