Wilkommen auf der Soulard

Just like any other heritage-centric festival, you don’t have to be German to fit in at the Soulard Oktoberfest (Lafayette Avenue and 8th Street; 314-368-3419 or www.soulardoktoberfest.com). To be quite honest, you don’t even need to know where Germany is on a map. But with daily music from German band Die Wielenbacher Musikanten (an opening act at the Munich Oktoberfest this year), succulent schweinehaxen (pork knuckle) and $12 liter mugs of Warsteiner Premium Verum (German beer), you’ll be claiming German lineage in no time. Additional fest highlights include a sausage-eating contest and the crowning of Miss Soulard Oktoberfest, two separate events both taking place on Saturday, October 6, along with the making of the world’s longest brat. Oktoberfest is open 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (October 5 through October 7).
