Putting the “Happy” in “Happy Halloween”

When you were a little kid, Halloween always seemed much more fun for the older children. You had to stand on your grandma’s kitchen table wearing a shoulders-to-knees pumpkin costume while practically all of your relatives pinned and adjusted and stuffed said outfit, and the older kids got to go trick-or-treating on their own and visit haunted houses and wear cooler costumes. Grant’s Farm (10501 Gravois Road; 314-843-1700 or www.grantsfarm.com) feels for today’s younger set and seeks to make this holiday more family-friendly with its annual Halloween festivities. Children twelve years old and younger will enjoy moonlit tram trips through the grounds and haunted train rides, photos with Frankenstein (who’s a nice monster now) and other characters, and a “Mad Science” show. The Grant’s Farm animals even get involved, and a DJ plays spooky music! The fun happens from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (October 11 through 27), and admission is free; parking costs $15.
