A Perfect Ten

Ten years ago, Bob Cassilly thought it’d be totally awesome to take random parts of St. Louis city and haphazardly (yet artfully) strew them about in a 600,000-square-foot space off Washington Avenue. Turns out his instinct was spot on. Throughout the decade this ragtag masterpiece known as the City Museum (701 North 15th Street; 314-231-2489 or www.citymuseum.org) gained recognition not only as a great place to let kids fulfill urges to act like spider monkeys, but also as a site for late-night cocktail hours and breathtaking wedding receptions. Museum organizers plan to celebrate this ten-year feat by throwing “one ginormous party” for the 21-and-older crowd. With Alley Cat Revue burlesque dancers, Flowers of Araby belly dancers and the Arch Rival Roller Girls on hand, along with music from the Hibernauts, the Falling Martins, Earl and DJ Mark Lewis, it appears this gala will be just as wonderfully chaotic as its setting. Partygoers will be able to venture through all three floors, preview the architectural museum exhibit, watch a live stenSOUL tribute with Peat Wollaeger and take a peak at the new fourth-floor vintage clothing store. The bash begins at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $10 (the same price as admission on any other weekend night) and are available at the door.
