Sleeper Awake!

A man -- let’s call him “Man in Chair” -- seeks comfort in his oldest, truest friend: the original cast album of the 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. As the record spins in his home, we see the musical come to life around him. The starlet who wants to leave Broadway for a husband, the producer who needs her to stay single so the gravy train keeps rolling, the gangsters who are also pastry chefs, they’re all there, spinning the same story they’ve told to Man in Chair a thousand times before. The Drowsy Chaperone is about the power of theater to remove you from this world and put you in that world, where people sing and dance their way through life’s ups and downs. It’s not so much about escape as it is solace; the difference being you can find solace in theater even when you’re not in the theater. Get your comfort at 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com) when The Drowsy Chaperone takes the stage again. Tickets are $30 to $68, and the show plays Tuesday through Sunday (October 30 through November 11).
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 30. Continues through Nov. 11, 2007
