Dance Is a Battlefield

While it may be true that dancing is one of the oldest art forms, it doesn’t mean that all dancing is artistic. Sometimes it’s endearing (isn’t that tutu precious?), embarrassing (how could you let me dance on the bar?) or even comical (but the audience loved that move in Dancing with the Stars!), but it’s not necessarily artistic -- leave that to the real dancers. Fortunately, they’ll be out in full force during the Fall 2007 Dance Concert put on by the University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Department of Theater, Dance and Media Studies. From Thursday through Saturday (November 8 through 10) at the Lee Theater at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the UMSL campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road), the St. Louis-based Modern American Dance Company (MADCO) performs Battlefield, a piece choreographed by Robert Battle of Battleworks Dance Company. Additionally, the shows promise a peek at new talent with dance and music performed by UMSL students and staff. Performances are at 8 p.m. each evening, and admission costs $5 to $8.
