Boone's Lit Road

As late as the 1930s (when electric Christmas lights replaced candles as the economically feasible holiday illumination of choice), it was not uncommon for a family's silent night to be interrupted by a blazing, out-of-control Christmas tree fire. While exciting (and convenient for chestnut-roasting), flaming Christmas trees were just another hardship early settlers faced in the wild Midwest. The Daniel Boone Home invites you back to that time when homes were decked with candles rather than strings of lights, when gathering around a bonfire was the equivalent of going to the mall, and when the carols were performed by live musicians and not hidden speakers. The Candlelight Tour of Boonesfield Village (1868 Highway F, Defiance) is all the fun of a frontier Christmas with all the comfort of modern safety precautions. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and tours are available from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (November 30 through December 15). Tickets are $10 to $15. For more information call 636-798-2005.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Dec. 15, 2007
