You watch too much TV (and your mind is firmly planted in the gutter) if you think that Babes in Toyland is some kind of spinoff of the E! show The Girls Next Door. Babes is a kids' story, for crying out loud! Don't remember the tale? Get to the Florissant Civic Center Theatre (Parker Road and Waterford Drive, Florissant) at 8 p.m. for Windwood Theatricals' updated version of the holiday operetta by Victor Herbert. The musical follows siblings Jane and Alan after they decide to run away from home. Fortunately, these kids end up not in a sad homeless shelter, but in a wonderful land of living toys (ones that aren't, presumably, coated in lead paint). While in Toyland, Alan and Jane learn about love and respect and a little bit about crime — a private detective wants them to help him steal the toymaker's plans. How will it all turn out? Purchase your $23-to-$25 tickets by visiting www.florissantfinearts.com or calling 314-921-5678 to find out!
