Parlor Tricked-Out

By Alison Sieloff

Published on December 05, 2007

When TV-touring houses via MTV Cribs, it's not often that the resident shows you their parlor. Their lake-size pool and their gold-plated shower, yes, but the parlor is typically an absent feature in these homes. Fortunately for you, St. Louis has a whole neighborhood just luxuriant with these rare sitting rooms, and you can get a look at some of them this weekend during the Lafayette Square Holiday Parlor Tour. Twelve homes will be showcased from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and tickets cost $15 in advance (at 314-772-5724) and $18 the day of the festivities (buy day-of tickets at the Park House at Lafayette and Mississippi avenues). Included in your admission is your own lavish horse-drawn carriage ride around Lafayette Park — how celeb! For more information about the event, check out www.lafayettesquare.org. And be sure to bring a camera: Sightings of the famous, like Santa and a Budweiser Clydesdale, are all but guaranteed.
