Creolthello

Othello, the Moor of Venice's most damning indictment of racism remains the fact that Shakespeare's play is no museum piece — it still resonates as an indictment of racism. The Black Rep's new production of Othello moves the action through time and place to late nineteenth-century New Orleans and the island of Haiti. A play about racism...set in New Orleans...Kanye would approve, methinks. The Black Rep's Othello opens with a 7 p.m. preview performance on Wednesday, January 2; the play continues Thursday through Sunday (January 3 through February 3) at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square; 314-534-1111 or www.theblackrep.org). Tickets are $33 to $43.
Wed., Jan. 2; Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 2. Continues through Feb. 3, 2008
