There's the Swedish Santa Lucia with her sweet, giving spirit and candle-lit crown of greenery, and then there's Father Christmas, a younger-looking Santa who dons green rather than red. And have you heard about Julenisse, the Scandinavian Santa? He and his goat, Yuley, go door to door greeting well-behaved children with candy in exchange for porridge. Learn more about these exotic Santas and other white-bearded legends at St. Charles' Christmas Traditions festival (Boonslick Road and South Main Street, St. Charles). This holiday-fueled bonanza also touts Victorian carolers, snapshots with Mr. Claus, carriage rides along historic cobblestone roads and a professional chestnut-roaster. Plus, festivities on Saturday and Sunday include a one-of-a-kind Santa parade at 1:30 p.m. with music by the Lewis & Clark Fife & Drum Corps. The best part? You can collect trading cards that picture the vast array of Yuletide characters roaming St. Charles to cherish for years to come. The last weekend of merriment runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday (December 21 through 23). For more information call the Greater St. Charles Convention & Visitors Bureau at 800-366-2427 or visit www.stcharleschristmas.com.
