Superstar DJs are kind of like top female porn stars: They rise up from the pack, dominate the scene for a while and then all but disappear after giving way to the next hot new name. At the moment, that name is Tiësto — the 38-year-old Dutch deckmaster who's known for pushing dance freaks worldwide to orgasmic heights with his celebrated six-hour sets of throbbing, atmospheric, progressive trance. In addition to all the worship (and the ridiculous amount of cash he must be raking in), Tiësto's garnered accolades galore: Since 2002, he's held DJ Magazine's "Best DJ in the World" title several times, and he was the first DJ to perform live at an Olympics opening ceremony (the 2004 summer games in Athens). But with red-hot fellow Dutch trance-master Armin Van Buuren breathing down his neck, perhaps it's best to catch Tiësto now, at his glorious peak, before he goes the way of Fatboy Slim, playing in some casino.
