Enlightenment at the End of the Tunnel

Tom Brady became a performance artist by quite literally burying himself alive. But that was more than three decades ago; now, Brady has launched his own performance and exhibition gallery in midtown. Satori (3003 Locust Street; 314-652-3003 or www.satori3003.com) celebrated its grand opening Friday, January 4, with an exhibition of Brady's "art objects" and photographs. And to further commemorate the space, Brady won't go under again — instead he will carefully balance and contort himself upon three rows of six poles in 3Row Poles to Enlightenment. A piece he first performed in 2004 in Milan, this performance-opera demonstrates the age-old tug of war between good and evil through movement and music. Witness this power-struggle of the mind and body at 8 p.m. on two Saturdays in a row (January 19 and 26) when Brady performs 3Row Poles with dancer Monica Newsam and vocalist Karen Schuster.
