Time for Art

Can you depict time in something as static as two- or three-dimensional art? An image in traditional media is fixed, and time is forever on the move. If time is pinned in one instant, is it still time? So many late-night questions — can there even be answers? Of course: Art trumps semantic debate, bypassing language and philosophical discourse in pursuit of a truth that is intuited, not argued out. Signs of the Times, the new exhibition at Art Saint Louis (917 Locust Street; 314-241-4810 or www.artstlouis.org), features artwork that explores the eternal passage of time. Signs of the Times officially opens with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 19; the show remains up through Thursday, February 28, and the gallery opens at 10 a.m. every day except Sunday.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 19. Continues through Feb. 28, 2008
