In America there are several things we are culturally programmed to idealize in wintertime: sledding, the Super Bowl and outdoor ice-skating. Well, right now in St. Louis, at least one of these magnificent events is possible every day, and that is the thrill of gliding around the ice at Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park (314-361-0613 or www.steinbergskatingrink.com). This is the rink's 50th winter in operation, and with its recent renovation, the romance of the spot is at its peak. For $6 ($2.50 more for skate rental), you can practice spins and spectacular splats under the sun or the stars from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday through Sunday, March 2. The blazing bonfire and the Snowflake Café provide respite and refreshment for skaters and non-skaters alike. And remember: Bruises fade faster than memories.
