Faster Than Batman: The Horse

By Paul Friswold

If you're old enough to remember the Jim Starlin/Berni Wrightson comic-book series, Batman: The Cult, you'll recall the slightly ridiculous, mostly awesome monster-truck version of the Batmobile in the story. Finally, life has imitated art: Batman, the truck, is the reigning Monster Jam World Racing Champion. And guess what black, bewinged and badass truck is scheduled to appear at the St. Louis stop of the Monster Jam? If you guessed Batman, you may be the world's greatest detective. At 7 p.m. the Edward Jones Dome (Broadway and Washington Avenue; 314-241-1888 or www.monsterjamonline.com; $5 to $27) becomes a post-apocalyptic playground strewn with wrecked buses and ringed with screaming fans — a suitable playground for Batman to conquer through a blend of speed, engine power and the judicious murderizing of a few ill-placed cars. And no utility belt in sight!
