Feel the Love (or Don't)

Ah, love. Is there no greater feeling than to be in love? The adrenaline, the rosy-colored appearance of the world around you, the make-out sessions — yes, love is quite lovely. And while people complain about how contrived Valentine's Day is, they really should be more saddened by the fact that we only have one day on the calendar devoted to love. So embrace the moment and snuggle your sweetie a little tighter today. And take her out for a meal, why doncha? Mosaics on Main Street (126 East Main Street, Belleville, Illinois) has a great idea: two gourmet pizzas, two glasses of wine and chocolates for the two of you — for $35 a couple! Plus, guitarist John Farrer will serenade you through dinner! What a perfect night out! It's not too fancy, but all of the important elements are there — and who doesn't love pizza? Call 618-355-5867 to make your reservations. Then if you really want to take it up a notch, head over to the Pepper Lounge (2005 Locust Street; 314-241-2005 or www.thepepperlounge.com) for the club's X-Rated Valentine's Day party, beginning at 9 p.m. The Champagne will be free, and the vibe will be sexy.

Of course, love isn't a splendored thing for all — for those nursing torn and broken hearts, rBar (4054 Chouteau Avenue; 314-480-2415 or www.rbarstl.com) hosts an Eff Valentine's Day party, complete with trivia at 8 p.m., DJ Deadasdisco on the decks until 3 a.m. and $4 Effen vodka drinks. Happy Effen Valentine's Day, indeed.
