Let's Get Physical

Artists are often so caught up in their work that they don't sleep or eat properly — and they definitely don't exercise frequently. David and Bevin Early, the founders of Snowflake/City Stock (a gallery and furniture store on Cherokee Street), are so concerned about the health of St. Louis-area artists that they have created a fitness area/exhibit called Snowflake Cares in the Front Room of the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; www.contemporarystl.org or 314-535-4660). From Tuesday through Friday (February 19 through 22), St. Louis artists and gallery-goers are challenged to participate in twenty-minute "artists' workouts" using provided fitness equipment, including exercise bikes and free weights. And at 6 p.m. on Thursday, a contest is held to rate the physical fitness and strength of participants. Call the Contemporary for exhibit admission information; exercisers receive a free Snowflake Cares sweatband.
