Continental Divide

Truth is almost always stranger, murkier and more poignant than fiction, so more moviegoers are turning to documentary film for insight into a complicated world. The Africa World Documentary Film Festival — which began on Saturday, March 1, and continues through Wednesday, March 26 — offers just such insight. The featured films address issues in African nations and the unique struggles faced by members of the African diaspora. On Wednesday, March 12, catch "Stories from Before: The New Voices of Immigrants in St. Louis," a panel discussion held in conjunction with the documentary fest. This free talk, which is led by Janet Morey and Gail Schafers (both teachers of English as a Second Language), begins at 7 p.m. at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters branch (1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard, Frontenac). Call 314-994-3300 or visit www.slcl.org/events/ for more information.
