Makin' History at Herstory

Is there a better way to celebrate Women's History Month than with other women? No. And the Herstory Weekend at Mosaics on Main (124 East Main Street, Belleville, Illinois) offers two nights of music, film and sisterhood for everybody who wants to celebrate women. In addition to massage sessions, an arts-and-crafts bazaar, and tarot-card readings, you can enjoy original films by Rebecca Rivas, Kristy Guttmann and Carson Minow and a puppet show by the Blaque Berry Puppet Theater. Add to that performances by thirteen musical acts (including .E, the East End Girls, Tenement Ruth and Maid*Rite), dance troupes (Coalescence and Hips Afire!) and a burlesque performance by the Alley Cat Revue, and you have one very full weekend. Patrons are encouraged to bring gently used wardrobe accessories and accoutrements for Herstory's clothing exchange, which donates the items to local women's shelters. A weekend pass for those who are eighteen and older is $10, and all proceeds benefit the Single Parent's Scholarship at Southwestern Illinois College. The party rages on from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday (March 7 and 8). For more information visit www.myspace.com/herstoryweekend or call Mosaics at 618-355-5867.
