Make a Float of It

Fitness events are usually just fitness events, and they focus on the healthy parts of life, like hydration, Clif Bars and "just getting out and doing something" (a phrase that people who are into fitness enjoy saying). Likewise, drinking events are usually just drinking events (these may also masquerade as other events — like birthday parties, holidays or Tuesday — but drinking is still the primary goal). Fortunately, St. Louisans have a knack for combining both types of happenings into one working-out and knocking-back occasion. Behold this glory today during the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Run (314-241-7287 or www.irishparade.org). For those in the pink, there's the five-mile run through downtown, which departs at 9 a.m. from Ninth and Market streets. Competitive runners paid $20 and signed up before Sunday, March 9, but the nonserious folks can show up with $20 in hand and start running (or walking). Whatever you do, just be back along Market Street by noon for the parade. That's where you'll meet up with folks in the green — they've been at the Irish Village in Kiener Plaza (Seventh and Market streets) since 9 a.m. enjoying beverages, food and entertainment. See? This downtown festival has something for everyone — even the non-Irish! And the fun goes until 4 p.m.!
