Home Sweet Home

Perhaps you didn’t always love vinyl siding. Maybe you once thought having a house that looked differently from your neighbor’s wasn’t a bad thing. You can see the good-design light at the end of the oddly named subdivision street, can’t you? If so, there’s still hope. Just get to the Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park (314-721-0072 or www.slam.org) immediately. Here, you will learn about homes that are unique; you will discover houses that are beautiful. And beautifully designed to boot! In the museum’s auditorium, Washington University professor and architect Robert McCarter gives a free talk on the topic of “The Houses of Frank Lloyd Wright” at 7 p.m. During the lecture he will cover several structures and styles, including the angular Frank Lloyd Wright house in Ebsworth Park in Kirkwood, which is cosponsoring the event. By the time the talk has concluded, you will have (hopefully) snapped out of your cookie-cutter suburban-housing nightmare, and you’ll want to purchase McCarter’s book, Frank Lloyd Wright, and have him sign it.
