Alton Brown on books on food

Alton Brown, he of the self-deprecating humor and obvious love of regular-people food (his Food Network program Good Eats is the gold standard of comical and helpful kitchen instruction), returns to St. Louis to talk food. The last time Brown was in town, he sampled doughnuts in St. Louis and visited Fast Eddie's Bon-Air in Alton for his food-travel show, Feasting on Asphalt. This time around he's promoting his book Feasting on Asphalt: The River Run, which documents the aforementioned trip. Brown discusses doughnuts, barbecue, pie and other staples of the Mississippi River communities at 4 p.m. at the Ethical Society of St. Louis (9001 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) as the guest of Left Bank Books. Admission is free, and only books purchased at Left Bank or at the event will be signed, so please, don't bring your homemade smoker and expect an autograph.
