Making an Empire

Director David Lynch once constructed a human head from turkey and cheese then photographed its consumption by ants. Want to peer into the decidedly non-cheese head that birthed the mind-bending cinema of Blue Velvet and Lost Highway and the paradigm-shifting television show Twin Peaks? Well, the Webster University Film Series brings you closer to the method behind the madness when it screens the documentary Lynch at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday (May 23 through 25) at Webster University's Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue). Lynch was created (the director is credited simply as blackANDwhite) from footage filmed while Lynch worked on his 2006 feature, Inland Empire, and it offers a suitably Lynchian take on the idea of documentary. Afterward, use your new insights to parse the evening's follow-up film, Lynch's hermetic Eraserhead. Tickets for this double feature are $5 to $6.
