It’s a reel good time
Like slasher films, the “teen-sex-comedy” genre reigned at the box office in the ’80s, only to fizzle out by the end of the decade. The 2007 release Superbad takes the tried-and-true premise — a couple of pals looking to get laid — yet succeeds because of its keen observational wit. Today’s Webaholic teens don’t have to rely on theater-going to glimpse girls au naturel, so Superbad rejects the superfluous nudity of the twenty-something-year-old flicks and adds characterization, while still maintaining a high level of raunch and providing penis puns aplenty. For your viewing pleasure, Superbad is screened for free around 8 p.m. at Soulard Market Park (South Eighth Street and Lafayette Avenue) by Frontyard Features, which strives to bring neighborhoods together through the big screen.
