65daysofstaticp.m. Sunday, May 18. 2 Cents Plain, 1114 Olive Street.By Shae MoseleyPublished on May 13, 2008 at 9:23am65daysofstatic's epic, sample-driven instrumental spaz-outs soundtrack a not-so-far-fetched post-apocalyptic future — and the frustrations of a generation wound tight by global terrorism and environmental concerns. A song like "Drove Through Ghosts to Get Here" (from 2005's One Time for All Time) combines the swirling, cinematic melodrama of Mogwai's heavier output with tech-heavy samples and drum loops that call to mind Aphex Twin. It's through this juxtaposition that the band carves out its own niche, building post-industrial soundscapes whose cinementic qualities lend themselves perfectly to video and in concert (where the band has stated it prefers to express itself). Lucky for 65daysofstatic's St. Louis fans, the band will be stopping here on an off day of the Cure's North American tour; it's currently the opening act.
