When the Iguanas made its major-label debut in 1993, the New Orleans quartet paid respect to the city's musical heritage while injecting a double-shot of Chicano rock into the formula. The band turned the standard "Fortune Teller" (written by Crescent City R&B legend Allen Toussaint) into a smoky barroom seduction. Since then, the Iguanas have mixed swamp rock and Latin grooves, creating a mish-mash of bilingual lyrics, bottom-heavy horns and the occasional accordion solo. Plastic Silver 9 Volt Heart, the group's last full-length, was released in 2003, but a new album is rumored to be on its way. Come hear a sneak preview as the Iguanas slither and slide across the Duck Room stage.
