The Twist of It

Who would've thought that millions of colorful, thin latex tubes would bring the world together? Washington University alumni filmmakers Sara Taksler and Naomi Greenfield are two such people who have seen the power of balloons. Their documentary, Twisted: A Balloonamentary, digs into the world of balloon-twisting enthusiasts and shows how this art can change people's lives. Catch the film during its run at the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City) from Friday through Thursday (May 23 through 29). With an animated short narrated by faux-news anchor Jon Stewart and some truly unbelievable balloon sculptures and sculptors, Twisted proves that the hobby of balloon-shaping isn't just for children's birthday parties. Stories are shared, more than a few tears are shed, and a slew of balloon dogs are created. Tickets, priced at $6.50 to $8.75, are available at the Tivoli box office (314-995-6270 or www.landmarktheatres.com) for the 5, 7 and 9:15 p.m. screenings. Visit www.twistedballoondoc.com for more about the film.
